About DONNZEN

DONNZEN

A tea, like a fragrance, is a landscape
distilled into something you can hold in one hand.

The Mountain

One estate. One terroir.

There is a place in southern China where an extinct volcano once emptied itself into the soil, leaving behind a rare, natural concentration of selenium — mineral memory, held in rock for centuries.

Mist settles over these cliffs most days of the year. Few roads reach this high. Fewer gardens are planted here. Ours is one of them. We do not source from this mountain. We are of it.

The Leaves

Two varietals, one origin.

Both hand-plucked, one shoot and two leaves, in a harvest window measured in weeks. Both roasted slowly over charcoal, in passes spread across days — closer to a perfumer's maceration than to modern food production.

Ya Shi Xiang

Bright, mineral, edged with orchid. The top note of the mountain — what you notice first, and remember longest.

Mi Lan Xiang dried tea leaves with honeymacro study — mi lan xiang

Mi Lan Xiang

Rounder, warmer, closer to honey held on the tongue. The base note — what lingers after the cup is empty.

The Roast

Finished in small batches over low charcoal heat, in passes spread across days — never rushed.

The Practice

Not a stimulant. Not a sedative.

We did not build Donnzen to compete with coffee, or to join the wellness aisle. We built it because stillness has become a luxury few people schedule for themselves.

A recalibration, taken twice a day, in the time it takes to steep a single pot.

On Rarity

Time, restraint, very little compromise.

We produce in small volume, by necessity rather than by design. One mountain yields only so much in a season; one family can only roast so slowly.

We have chosen not to solve this by growing faster, or growing elsewhere.
